Green targets
Well, it’s not looking good. According to the Industry and Regulators Committee report: ‘The net zero transformation: delivery, regulation and the consumer’, published in March 2022. It concludes that the Government is likely to miss its target by 2050 because the target has not been matched by the policies and financial incentives necessary to unlock the substantial private investment needed to fund new energy technologies for industrial and domestic use. The Committee on Climate Change has already stated that, to reach net zero by 2050, £12bn needs to be invested into UK building stock each year to 2050. We’re all doing our best to be energy-conscious and to reuse, reduce and recycle wherever possible, but they’re small steps, the Government has to commit to taking the big ones and fast.
