Mark’s riding for environmental change

If you know Mark Prescott, our Regional Northern Manager, then you know he quite likes cycling, which is just as well, as he’s in training for a 150-mile bike ride in the Yorkshire Dales. This is not for the good of his health, but for ours and the planet’s. He’s one of the cyclists involved in Plumbing and Heating Group’s (PHG) Revolution 150, an initiative to encourage all of us to reduce our environmental impact, specifically where it comes to fighting plastic and carbon pollution. This all came about thanks to a discussion Nigel Fowler (Duftons Plumbing & Heating) and Matt Pysden (Sussex Plumbing Supplies), both PHG members, had at a conference 18 months ago about the detrimental effects all of us are having on our planet. They decided to do something to effect environmental change but needed support to help apply the pressure.

Support came from PHG, an organisation led by some of the most experienced merchants in the industry, which recognised the value of Nigel and Matt’s vision and so the ‘PHG Revolution 150 – riding for environmental change’ was born. It also provided the ideal opportunity to raise money for two charities: Surfers Against Sewage, which is dedicated to protecting our oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife and The Woodland Trust, which focuses on the creation, protection and restoration of our woodland heritage.

‘PHG Revolution 150’ aims to drive home the message of how important and simple it is for everyone to make a difference to the environment at work and at home. By inspiring change at all stages of the supply chain, from manufacturer to consumer, and by influencing suppliers to adopt and develop more environmentally friendly practices, making green steps will become easier for all of us.

Commenting on this initiative, Matt Pysden said: “In the process of setting up ‘PHG Revolution 150’ we have come to realise just how passionate people are about the environment, how much companies are already doing and are planning to do, which is really encouraging. With overwhelming support for PHG from the members, staff and suppliers, the maximum number of cyclists signed up within just a few days plus all the sponsorship packages were snapped up almost immediately – it is set to be one epic event!”

Mark is riding as part of James Hargreaves team and has set up a fundraising page and, if you’d like to lend your support to tackle two of the most important environmental problems affecting everyone and everything on our planet, please visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-portal/fundraiserPage?pageId=1142499

Our thanks and respect go to Matt, Nigel, PHG and all the amazing cyclists participating in this event, which takes place over two days on 14th and 15th May.
